As I was sitting in the conference room hearing a presentation from GNU Project founder, Mr. Richard Matthew Stallman, a text message came into my blackberry. It said, “what happened to your blog?”. “It’s fine”, I replied. “No it’s not. It’s empty!”, said my friend, Benny Risanto. Ding, what happened to my blog? Has someone hacked my blog? Did he/she erase all of my posts? A lot of things came across my mind at that time. I sat there through out the conference thinking and wondering why on earth would someone hacked my blog. Why would he go all the trouble just to hack an ordinary and not so fancy blog like mine?

As soon as the seminar finished, I rushed on to my internet cafe. I entered the url: http://ghozan.com on my browser and saw that my index page has been changed. Nothing shown other than a sentence saying that my blog has been hacked by a Turkey hacker. I don’t know whether the hacker is really from Turkey or not, to tell you the truth that was the least important thing to worry about. I was more concerned about all of my posts. Did the hacker succeeded all the way to my database? Fortunately (I still think that the hacker could do worst), he did not do anything harmful to my database.

What he did was just changing my index page and replaced it with his own page. I don’t know how he did it. My guess is that he hacked into my site through either the themes or plugins. I was able to put my site online by reinstalling Wordpress. So for now I use the default theme from Wordpress and is looking for ways to increase the security of my blog. For the hacker all I can say is thank you that you have shown the vulnerabilities of my blog but you could point it out to me in a more polite manner. You could stop by and write comments on my post instead of changing my index page.
